Match the mounting, wheel size and overall height, then choose the movement and load rating required for your equipment. Replacing only the wheel? Check the axle bore and hub length too.
Match the fitting before choosing the wheel
A complete castor includes the wheel and mounting bracket. A replacement wheel fits an existing compatible bracket or axle. If the bracket, swivel or brake is damaged, replacing the wheel alone does not address that damage.
Plate or bolt hole? Fixed, swivel or brake?
Plate fittings: match plate dimensions, mounting-hole diameter and hole-centre spacing. Bolt-hole fittings: match the central hole diameter and fastening arrangement.
Fixed castors roll in a straight line. Swivel castors turn to steer. Swivel-with-brake options help hold equipment when parked; check exactly what the brake locks. Keep the equipment maker’s intended arrangement or ask for advice before changing it.
Check size, height and load
Measure wheel diameter, tread width and overall height from the floor to the mounting face. Different heights can tilt equipment. For a loose wheel, also check axle bore and hub length.
Use the equipment’s own weight plus its maximum carried load. Ratings are per castor where stated. Uneven floors and dynamic use affect load sharing: do not simply divide by the number of wheels and assume suitability.
